Jack Punton was known throughout the region as 'Jack, The Walking Man.' In his 60's, 70's and 80's he performed a number of charity walks. The picture shows him during his longest 'jaunt' covering 2300 miles around the coast of England & Wales.

Although not completely sure it is estimated he raised over £40 000 for his various charities - the local NSPCC being his favourite.

In 2008 to celebrate 50 years as a family business John Punton, his three sons (Mark, Nigel & Matthew) and daughter (Michelle) took the challenge of the National Three Peaks in 24 hours. This involved climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden in one day (including all the driving in between). Although physically very gruelling they all managed it with time to spare and raised over a £1000 for Jack's favourite charity the NSPCC.

For the past few years in Snaith, as part of the Christmas celebrations, the family has arranged interactive Christmas window displays which are coin activated and allow money to be raised for nominated charities.

The charities include Oxfam, Shelter and the NSPCC. So far well over £3000 has been raised. It's just every year, the windows get more and more complicated!

In 2012, J Punton & Son, through its' Christmas window display and customer donations throughout the year purchased 9 acres of pristine rainforest in the Amazon. The purchase protects the forest from logging and ensures communities within the forest retain their habitat for the future.

Cool Earth has currently protected over 330 000 acres, more than twice the area of Leeds.
